Stay Motivated with Post-it® Notes

3 simple steps using Post-it® Notes for goal setting and accomplishment.

You can go from getting very little done to accomplishing goals that have been on your to-do list for far too long. How? By turning Post-it® Notes into your personal motivational system.

  • 1

First, let your imagination run wild with all the great things you could do with your day. Then take three Post-it® Notes and write down your top three goals, such as getting a promotion at work, traveling to Aruba or simply being a better friend.

  • 2

Next, divide each goal into manageable steps. Each step needs to be something you can accomplish in a reasonable amount of time each day, in no more than 20 minutes.

If your goal is to be a better friend, small steps might be sending them a short email, Facebook message or text. Larger goals could be carving out 15 minutes to call them, inviting them over for dinner or sending them an unexpected gift.

Now start taking your steps — no matter how small they are — and put them in a place where you’ll see them most often. Think: the fridge, the bathroom mirror, your phone or your car.

If you notice a time of day when your motivation is lacking and you don’t want to do anything, grab one of the goals, look for the tiniest task, and do it. Right now.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly you start crossing off both major and minor goals that greatly benefit your quality of life. Remember to start small. Anything you accomplish, no matter how insignificant it might seem, is a very big deal.
